Having a Sense of Urgency About Your Mission

July is the month we all celebrate Independence Day, our 249th this year. If we truly desire to be the land of the free and the home of the brave we must maintain a sense of urgency about helping others escape the bondage of sin by bravely sharing the gospel to secure their freedom! Both of my guests this month are extraordinary examples of men who have committed their lives to this purpose.I met Ed Kinsey through a previous guest and friend, Eloy Huerta, at one of his Men 4 Jesus meetings in Alvin Texas. After visiting with Ed he followed up by sending me a copy of the book he had written called “Hospice Hymns: Touching Stories of Musical Therapy at Hospice Facilities.” What an amazing glimpse into people on the threshold of death and Ed’s commitment to […]

How Best to Execute the Great Commission

June is typically a month of “going forth.” School is out, we pack up the kids and take off for summer vacations. Many of us attend weddings. And of course there are always summer camps, mission trips, and vacation bible school. Jesus’ final command to his disciples comes in Matthew 28:19: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the. Holy Spirit. It is known as the great commission. In different parts of the world, we are seeing very different results or effectiveness in achieving this directive. Last month we had an episode titled “Don’t Give Up on the Church” with Dr Timothy West which was was focused on the attrition we have observed in church attendance in America since 2000. This month we have Bob […]

God’s Plans Verses Our Plans

Every May brings three big events: Mother’s Day, Graduations, and Memorial Day. All three make us reflect more deeply on the loved ones in our lives as well as marking the change in seasons from Spring toward summer. This May we also welcomed the first American born Pope, Leo, after Francis passed away on April 21st ending his twelve year period as pontiff. We also had five Fridays so we had three episodes this month with our every other Friday posting schedule. Our first show features my guest Chad Brignac who, together with his wife Jdele, authored a book about blended families titled “Blend Don’t Break: Creating Your Family’s Secret Sauce”. As someone with firsthand experience myself blending a family since 2002, I thought this sensitive subject would represent a great Mother’s Day tribute to the most important job any of […]

Wrestling With School Choice

Friends, March is a month known across the country for two school related events: Spring Break Vacations The NCAA Basketball Tournament know as March Madness This year, in Texas, it is also a very important month for our legislature as “School Choice” has become a major priority for both parents and our Governor.  Both the House and the Senate have passed bills in each respective chamber and will now go to a conference committee to hash out the differences in the final bill sent to the Governor to sign into law. My guest for two separate episodes this month is retired USAF Colonel Travis Koch. He has been on the show before in January of 2023 as we discussed the book Boys Adrift: The Five Factors Driving the Growing Epidemic of Unmotivated Boys and Underachieving Young Men.  At the time Travis […]

Pastors Perspectives

Friend, We have achieved another milestone in downloads from the Buzzsprout hosting platform to bring the total for the show to over 5000 when combined with the Omni hosting site we used when it was also a radio program!  This has been achieved through organic interest with almost zero dollars spent on ads or promotions.  We are hopeful that fundraising will allow some promotional opportunities later this year but good content is always the top priority.  Like the line in the movie Field of Dreams, “If you build it they will come!” This edition of the newsletter features two of my favorite pastors covering topics that we all begin each year ruminating over: Diets and Debts (both usually from excesses over the holidays) Pastor Michael Tadlock and I met while he as on staff at Second Baptist Church in Houston […]

100th Episode Milestone Achieved!

Friends, 2025 has begun with a breathtaking pace in a new presidential administration and a significant achievement for the podcast with our 100th episode! We have completed the four part series with pastor and author Dwight Edwards covering the four spiritual provisions discussed in his book Revolution Within. With new purity, a new identity in Christ, a new disposition to desire to do God’s will, and the new supernatural power provided by the Holy Spirit we have been provided the resources up front to wrestle with our inner man and claim victory over our sinful nature in the flesh. On a personal note our second grandchild was born on January 27th, this time a boy named Rylan Hunter Savage!  He joins his cousin three month old Riley Grace Selden as tremendous motivational sources to represent the light of Christ in […]
